Start with clean, dry nails (remove any nail polish first).
Use the coarsest grit side (labeled or identified by texture) to gently smooth rough nail edges or obvious ridges (use light, circular motions; avoid pressing too hard).
Switch to the medium grit side to further refine the nail surface and reduce remaining unevenness (focus on the entire nail bed for consistency).
